About Harmony Wildflowers

We have strong ecology restoration roots, and firmly believe in "the right plant for the right place."  Appropriate native plants can be chosen for the existing site conditions so that plants and location combine to create beautiful, easy to care for havens for people and wildlife alike.  Natives tend to be highly adaptable, with plenty of versatility within the native plant palette to create more formal gardens or a less formal natural landscape.

Our services range from complete design and installation for the client who is happy to have someone else do the work to pencil sketches and plant lists that a gardener can use to procure and install plants on his or her own.  This second option often cuts down on the expense of hiring a landscaper to help realize the vision a homeowner may already have for his or her yard.  We also provide maintenance services to keep that new garden looking beautiful and weed-free, especially in those critical first few years.

We recognize and serve a niche market of homeowners who enjoy being involved in the design and landscape process.  We have found that gardeners often wish to do some or even most of the installation, they just need some help in the overall design.  In this process, we pull different parts of the yard together, select appropriate native plants for the gardens' soil and light conditions and to benefit the larger ecological and natural community.

About Laurie Goldsmith

Laurie started Harmony Wildflowers when she was living in St. Louis, MO.  At first, she helped her friends (and friends of friends) figure out what native plants would work best in the their yards, based on site-specific conditions of light, soil moisture, and other soil properties.  At times, she also sold extras of the plants she propagated for her own gardens to those burgeoning native plant enthusiasts.  Later, she offered formal site consultations and landscape design services as she continued to sell the native plants she propagated.

After relocation to the Twin Cities and completion of a Masters in Plant Biology from the University of Minnesota, Harmony Wildflowers is up and running again.  Raingardens are a new focus for landscape design and consultation, and Laurie now grows over 100 species of native Minnesota plants in St. Louis Park, MN (just west of Minneapolis).  Many of these species prefer mostly sun to partial sun plants,  with several shade options, in a wide range of soil moisture preferences.
